Massi Avelli – graves carved directly into boulders are still an archaeological mystery, both in terms of their dating and their cultural background. There are no inscriptions, no historical sources mentioning them, no legend or popular tradition that could give us a clue to a specific time or population. To date, thirty-five such graves have been documented in southeastern Switzerland and northern Italy and are unique in this form.
