Watermelon

From the United States to Uzbekistan via Canada, Egypt and Bulgaria, the June edition of Fabrikzeitung takes the Citrullus lanatus as a starting point for an investigation: what is the history of the fruit, its cultural significance, its racist trope, its role in cinema and painting? Artists and researchers have carefully and literally listened to the watermelon to tell us their family histories, adventures in the New Mexico desert, and teach us how to choose the best watermelon this summer. With contributions by Bill Black, Claire Mullen, Daphne Xu, Julia Sharpe, Manar Moursi, Parker Hatley & Cameron Zarrabzadeh, Pauline Shongov, Supratik Baralay. This edition is a collaboration with the "CMP-Projects" group and the Critical Media Practice at Harvard University.
